Reconstruction and technical retrofit of the library named after M.F.Akhundov on Khagani Street in Baku

The building of the library was constructed in the end of 1950’s upon a project of People’s architect of USSR, a Hero of Socialist Labour, academician Mikael Aleskerovich Useynov. The building is a vivid example of use and innovative understanding of traditional forms and methods of architectural heritage of Azerbaijan and, undoubtedly, is one of the pearls of architecture of Azerbaijan in soviet period.The project of reconstruction and technical retrofit provides for constructing an additional floor facing R.Beybutov and Nizami Streets which was specified in the project of authorship by academician M.Useynov, and also numerous elements of décor of facades which were not implemented during the development due to economy, as a result of a campaign struggling with “architectural extravagances” declared by then the leader of USSR N.Khruschev. The elements of décor of interiors are restored according to drawings of authorship of the academician.The technical retrofit provides for doubling the storage capacity, the highest level of storage conditions, complete automation of technological processes.
